What is this?
Hikari Week is a week-long fandom event that focuses on the character Hikari Ku from Octopath Traveler II. It will run from March 15th to the 21st.
Who is participating?
You, if you want to! You participate by posting fan fiction, fan art, cosplay pictures, or anything else you create! You can also support the event by sharing content posted in the tag or shared by the event's social media accounts.
Do I have to join anything to participate?
Nope! If you want, you can follow @ hikariweek on Twitter, Bluesky, or Tumblr, but doing so is not required. We will find your content in the tag #hikariweek26
What subjects can I cover in my submissions?
Anything inspired by the prompts listed above, as long as they focus on Hikari and do not feature any romantic content involving him. Violent content is allowed as long as it is properly tagged.
How do prompts work and how do they relate to posting?
Prompts are ideas that submissions are based on. For example, the prompt “Family” can be used as the basis for an illustration depicting Hikari and his mother. This prompt is listed on the second day, which means that the illustration should ideally be posted on March 16, the second day of Hikari Week. But don't worry if you're falling behind or are busy. We will periodically check the tag for late submissions. Take as long as you need. You can also combine prompts! Both prompts for day one, for example, lend themselves to content about Hikari’s relationship with Ritsu.
Where can I post my submissions?
Illustrations and photography can be posted on any site that allows image uploads. Fan fiction can be posted on AO3, fanfiction.net, or Tumblr. We will be checking the tag on Twitter, Bluesky, and Tumblr, so if your submission is hosted on a site where we won’t be checking the tag, such as AO3, please link to it on one of the sites where we will be checking the tag.
Can I submit content I did not work on?
Works that were commissioned for Hikari Week are allowed; otherwise, we ask you submit content that you have created.
Can I re-post old content?
No. Only content created for Hikari Week is allowed. However, you are allowed to submit old ideas or WIPs that have not been revealed and fit with the prompts.
Why is romantic content involving Hikari prohibited?
So this event can remain distinct from the events that do focus on such content. We would also like this event to be enjoyed by as many Hikari fans as possible, and thus wish to avoid any discomfort that may come from including ships some participants are uncomfortable with. We encourage you to seek out and participate in the corresponding fandom events for your preferred ship, or to organize one if no such event exists. We politely ask you not to circumvent this rule with content that has romantic subtext (i.e. "if you squint").
Why is generative AI content prohibited?
Until gen AI is made ethically and with consent, we cannot in good conscience accept content produced this way. We encourage you to create to the best of your ability. Your content will be shared regardless if you or others have a negative assessment of it, and we will not tolerate any mockery of the content produced and shared. This event is for fans of all artistic abilities to share their original work celebrating Hikari, stick figures and drabbles included! View this as an opportunity to practice your skills or try something new.
